Police Launch Probe, Order Re-Arrest Over Jobele Division Incident in Oyo

The Oyo State Police Command has ordered the re-arrest of a suspect who was allegedly released illegally in connection with a recent incident involving officers at the Jobele Divisional Police Headquarters in Oyo town.

The directive was issued by the Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, through a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka during a high-level stakeholders’ meeting held at the Command Headquarters in Eleyele,
Ibadan, as part of efforts to address public concerns and ensure accountability within the police system.

The meeting brought together representatives from the four Local Government Areas within Oyo town, including youth leaders and student representatives, to foster dialogue and collaborative solutions to the issues arising from the incident at the Jobele Division.

During the deliberations, community representatives expressed dissatisfaction over the alleged unprofessional conduct of some officers attached to the Jobele Divisional Headquarters.

They, however, acknowledged the swift disciplinary measures already taken by the police leadership, including the deployment of operational assets to the affected area.

While responding to the concerns, the Oyo State Commissioner of Police Femi Haruna assured the stakeholders that the Command would conduct a transparent, impartial, and thorough investigation into the matter.

He disclosed that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) involved had been issued a query, while other officers connected to the incident had been detained and subjected to internal disciplinary procedures pending the outcome of investigations.

To ensure transparency and accountability, the Commissioner also directed the immediate redeployment of the DPO to allow for an unbiased investigation.

He further stated that the probe would be handled by the Nigeria Police Force X-Squad to guarantee thoroughness and professional oversight.

In addition, additional tactical teams have been deployed to strengthen security coverage across Oyo town and surrounding communities.

The Commissioner reiterated the Command’s commitment to justice and accountability, stressing that anyone found culpable would be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law and extant police regulations, regardless of status or position.

He also urged residents of Oyo town and its environs to continue cooperating with the police by providing credible information that would aid ongoing investigations and enhance public safety.

The Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, transparency, and the protection of lives and property across the state.
