The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed rumours circulating about an alleged curfew and restriction of movement in Ibadan and other parts of the state, assuring residents that there is no security threat requiring panic or apprehension.

In a statement issued on Saturday evening by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the command described the reports as false, misleading and capable of causing unnecessary fear among residents.
According to the statement, there is currently no restriction on the movement of persons or vehicles within Ibadan metropolis or any other part of Oyo State.
“The Oyo State Police Command wishes to categorically state that there is currently no curfew or restriction placed on the movement of persons or vehicles within or outside Ibadan, contrary to reports circulating in some quarters,” the statement read.

The command noted that adequate security measures had already been put in place across the state, with officers and operatives strategically deployed to maintain law and order as well as ensure the safety of lives and property.
It further reassured residents that the security situation in the state remains stable and under control.

“The Command unequivocally assures residents and the general public that there are no security concerns warranting panic or apprehension,” the statement added.
The police also warned against the spread of unverified information capable of creating fear, panic and emotional distress, stressing that individuals found circulating false reports would be investigated and prosecuted in line with the law.
The command reiterated that any official security directive or emergency measure would only be communicated through the Office of the Police Public Relations Officer and disseminated via recognised conventional and digital media platforms.
Residents were therefore encouraged to go about their lawful activities without fear while remaining vigilant and cooperating with security agencies to sustain peace and public order across the state.
The police also provided emergency contact lines for residents, including the Oyo State Call Response Centre toll-free line, 615, as well as the Oyo State Police Command Control Room numbers: 08081768614 and 07055495413.
