Olatunji Applauds Ogundoyin’s Impactful Tenure as Nigeria Speakers’ Conference Chairman

The Chairman of Oluyole Local Government, Asiwaju Akeem Olatunji, has commended the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, for what he described as an impactful, transformative and successful tenure as Chairman of the Nigeria Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures.

Olatunji gave the commendation in a statement made available to journalists on Wednesday, February 11.

The commendation follows the completion of Ogundoyin’s tenure at the helm of the Conference, where he said the Oyo Speaker brought renewed purpose, visibility and coordination to state legislatures across the country.

According to the Oluyole council boss, Ogundoyin’s leadership helped reposition the Conference from a largely ceremonial platform into a more policy-driven and reform-oriented body.

“Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin has proven that age is never a barrier to excellence in leadership. He truly represents the nation’s “Not too young to run” agitation.

“His tenure as Chairman of the Nigeria Conference of Speakers was marked by courage, clarity of vision and an uncommon commitment to strengthening democratic institutions at the subnational level,” Olatunji said.

He noted that one of the most significant achievements of the Oyo Speaker was his sustained advocacy for the full implementation of financial and administrative autonomy for State Houses of Assembly, adding that the issue received renewed national attention during his chairmanship.

Olatunji also praised Ogundoyin’s role in promoting capacity building and peer learning among Speakers and lawmakers, through regular policy dialogues, retreats and technical engagements targeted at improving legislative oversight and lawmaking quality.

“The Conference under his leadership became a strong voice in national discourse on constitutional amendment, electoral reforms and good governance.

“For the first time in a long while, state legislatures spoke with a more united and coherent voice on issues affecting Nigeria’s federal structure,” he added.

The Oluyole chairman further highlighted Ogundoyin’s push for the standardization of legislative procedures and best practices across State Assemblies, as well as his encouragement of digital innovation through the adoption of e-parliament systems and improved record management.

He said the emphasis placed on youth inclusion and leadership mentorship during Ogundoyin’s tenure resonate strongly with young Nigerians, describing it as a deliberate effort to prepare the next generation of legislative leaders.

Olatunji also acknowledged the Oyo Speaker’s mediatory interventions in resolving internal disputes in some State Assemblies, noting that his calm and consultative approach helped to preserve institutional stability in challenging moments.

“Beyond policies and communiqués, his leadership style was inclusive and bridge-building. He strengthened legislative-executive engagement without compromising the independence and oversight responsibilities of state legislatures,” he said.

He described Ogundoyin’s tenure as a source of pride to Oyo State and a clear testament to the quality of leadership being produced in the state under the current democratic dispensation.

“As he hands over to his successor, his legacy will endure in the stronger institutions, improved collaboration and renewed confidence in the role of state legislatures.

“Oluyole Local Government and indeed Oyo State celebrate him and we’re proud to call him our own pride,” Olatunji concluded.
