The Nigerian Military has officially handed over the pupils and teachers rescued from captivity in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State to the Oyo State Government, following the successful completion of a mandatory 48-hour medical observation and evaluation.

The victims, who regained their freedom on Friday after spending 56 days in the custody of their abductors, had been under the care of the Headquarters, 2 Division Nigerian Army Medical Services, Odogbo Barracks, Ibadan. During the period, they received comprehensive medical treatment, psychological assessment and psychosocial support to aid their recovery from the traumatic experience.
The formal transfer marks the conclusion of the military’s immediate post-rescue intervention and signals the commencement of the next phase of rehabilitation and reintegration under the supervision of the Oyo State Government.

The rescued pupils and teachers are expected to be reunited with their families after the state government concludes the necessary reintegration process.
Governor Seyi Makinde is expected to address the people of Oyo State and Nigerians in a statewide broadcast, where he is anticipated to provide further details of the rescue operation, update the public on the condition of the victims, and outline the government’s plans for their continued rehabilitation and safe return to their communities.

The successful handover represents another significant milestone in the efforts of the Oyo State Government and security agencies to ensure the safe recovery and welfare of the victims following their prolonged ordeal.
