Oyo LG Chairmen Rally Behind Makinde, Dismiss Impeachment Rumour as Political Distraction
The Oyo State Local Government Chairmen’s Forum has urged residents, stakeholders, and political actors across the state to remain resolute in their support for Governor Seyi Makinde, dismissing circulating impeachment rumours as a calculated attempt to divert attention from governance and destabilise the administration.

The forum, led by its Chairman, Hon. Sikiru Sanda, and Publicity Secretary, Hon. Ibrahim Akintayo, made the call amid rising speculation over an alleged move to impeach the governor.
In a statement, the chairmen described the impeachment rumour as a deliberate attempt by certain interests to derail the administration’s focus and hinder the delivery of its development agenda.

They argued that the alleged plot was designed not only to disrupt governance but also to prevent the governor from completing his tenure successfully and influencing the emergence of a worthy successor ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“The rumour of impeachment is nothing but a ploy to distract Governor Makinde from his commitment to good governance and the successful completion of his administration,” the forum stated.

Reaffirming their confidence in the governor’s leadership, the chairmen maintained that the administration is built on a “solid foundation” and remains resilient against what they described as intimidation and propaganda.
They further pledged their continued loyalty and support, noting that local government administrations across the state would sustain efforts to complement the governor’s policies and programmes at the grassroots level.
The forum urged the people of Oyo State to disregard what it termed unfounded claims and to continue backing the Makinde-led administration in its drive to deliver dividends of democracy.
