Oyo Assembly Committee Commends Lands Ministry, Surveyor-General Over Digital Transformation of Survey Records
The Oyo State House of Assembly Committee on Lands and Housing has commended the state Ministry of Lands and the Office of the Surveyor-General for transforming the management of survey records from the traditional analogue system to a modern digital platform.
The committee, led by its Chairman, Hon. Dele Adeola, representing Iseyin/Itesiwaju Constituency, expressed satisfaction with the digital upgrade during an engagement with officials of the Ministry.
Other members of the committee include the Vice Chairman, Hon. Deji Oparinde, representing Afijio Constituency; Hon. Sanjo Adedoyin, representing Ogbomoso South Constituency; Hon. Adebayo Babajide, representing Ibadan North II Constituency; and Hon. Omikunle Olayinka, representing Ibadan South-East II Constituency.
The lawmakers described the development as a significant improvement in the administration and accessibility of land and survey records in Oyo State.
They noted that the transition from the analogue system would make it easier for residents, professionals and other stakeholders to access relevant survey information without the challenges traditionally associated with retrieving physical files.
Speaking during the engagement, the Commissioner for Lands explained that the digital transformation became necessary due to the enormous volume of records accumulated over several decades, including documents dating back to the era of the old Western Region.
According to the Commissioner, the analogue system resulted in large volumes of physical files being stored in various locations, making the retrieval and management of records increasingly challenging.
He explained that the digital platform was designed to address these challenges by preserving records electronically and making them more accessible to members of the public.
With the new system, users can access relevant survey records remotely, eliminating the need to physically visit government offices simply to retrieve or verify documents.
The digital platform also provides round-the-clock access, allowing users to log in and check their documents and files 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The Commissioner said the initiative was part of the state’s broader efforts to modernise land administration, improve efficiency and make government services more accessible to residents.
The committee members welcomed the development, commending the Ministry of Lands and the Surveyor-General for embracing technology to improve service delivery and preserve Oyo State’s extensive land and survey records.
They noted that the digitalisation of the records would not only ease access for residents but also strengthen the management and preservation of important government documents for future generations.
