The Oyo State Government has taken delivery of its long-awaited security surveillance aircraft.
The aircraft, which arrived at the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan, on Tuesday, is expected to support aerial surveillance, intelligence collection and rapid security response across Oyo State and adjoining areas.
The arrival of the aircraft comes months after Governor Seyi Makinde announced plans by his administration to acquire modern aerial surveillance platforms to bolster ongoing efforts aimed at tackling insecurity, including kidnapping, banditry and other criminal activities.
Government sources said the surveillance aircraft would work in synergy with existing security agencies, the Oyo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun Corps, and other intelligence units to monitor forests, border communities and identified flashpoints across the state.
The development is expected to further complement recent investments by the state government in security infrastructure, including the procurement of operational vehicles, communication gadgets and logistics support for security agencies.
Although details of the aircraft’s operational deployment were yet to be officially disclosed as of press time, the source confirmed its delivery to Westernmirror.com.ng today.
