FOSSU Commends Tinubu, Makinde Over Oriire Rescue, Seeks Lasting Protection for Schools

The Federation of Oyo State Students’ Union (FOSSU) National Council has expressed joy over the safe release of the pupils and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, describing the development as a major relief for the academic community and the state at large.

In a statement signed by its President, Sen. Ahmed A. Mufutau, the students’ body gave thanks to Almighty God for preserving the lives of the victims and reuniting them with their families, colleagues and communities after weeks in captivity.

 

FOSSU commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what it described as his decisive leadership and commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the country.

The union also praised Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, for his proactive coordination, unwavering resolve and direct intervention, noting that his efforts contributed significantly to the successful rescue of the victims.

 

The students’ body further appreciated the Soun of Ogbomosoland, traditional rulers, Baales, chiefs and community leaders in the affected communities for their grassroots collaboration and support throughout the rescue efforts.

FOSSU equally lauded the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Oyo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun Corps), local hunters, vigilante groups and other stakeholders for their gallantry, professionalism and coordinated efforts that led to the victims’ freedom.

 

While celebrating the successful rescue, the union called on the Federal Government, the Oyo State Government and security agencies to strengthen measures aimed at protecting educational institutions from criminal attacks.

 

According to the statement, the safety of pupils, students, teachers and the entire academic community across primary, secondary and tertiary institutions must remain a top priority.

 

FOSSU reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for a safe, secure and conducive learning environment across Oyo State, pledging to continue partnering with government and relevant stakeholders to ensure that schools remain centres of learning rather than targets of insecurity.
