A political group “Coalition of Good Governance” in Afijio local government has kicked against the moves of some party stakeholders on the minority led by chief Sunday Ogunlade to impose an unpopular candidate using the governor’s name for personal interest.
In a statement made available to bowamedia.com by the group publicity secretary, comrade Tiamiyu Alao protested the incessant and self acts of Chief Ogunlade towards the adoption of candidates without the prior knowledge of other leaders and party stakeholders in the local government.
Alao said the moves by Chief Ogunlade were a flagrant violation of the party’s constitution, which stipulated that there must be an indirect primary or consensus in agreement with other party stakeholders.
He said, “It is our candid opinion that some games are being played by just one individual, we have over 17 leaders in Afijio from different wards for decision-making but rather Ogunlade has been the only one selecting without any input from other leaders in Afijio, he has turned the political sphere of Afijio into family affairs.
“We cannot sit and watch one man hijack a system that has been in place for decades, falsely using the governor’s name for his self gains. If democracy is not allowed to take its proper place, the interest, and integrity of our great party will be in jeopardy.
“On our part, we will not support any attempt by an individual or group to rubbish or temper with due process that we have duly worked hard for. Anything contrary to a free and fair process, we will not be allowed.
“We humbly call on the executive Governor of Oyo State and the party-state executives to help wage in and call Chief Ogunlade to order, his excesses are becoming unbearable and allow due process ahead of the forthcoming chairmanship election in Afijio”.
