The leadership of the People’s Democratic Party in Oyo State has commended the judiciary for being the last hope of the common man. The Party said the judiciary dispensed justice without dancing to the macabre song of the failed and tattered All Progressives Congress.
It could be recalled that the councillorship candidate of the APC in ward 3, Ido local government council, Mr Omotosho Olayide took the People’s Democratic Party, its candidate, Hon. Rafiu Omotosho and the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission to the election petition tribunal for inconsistency in election results and electoral malpractices. He also asked the court to declare him as the rightful winner of the election.
While delivering their judgment in the suit no:LGET/OY/01/2024, the tribunal dismissed the case for lack of competence, filing the petition out of time as prescribed by OYSIEC law which stipulated a 14-day window to file a petition challenging the outcome of the electoral process.
The tribunal ruled that the case is statue barred. The tribunal also held that the petitioner failed to plead the contentious results of the elections in their pleadings which are the basic requirements of their petition.
In a statement made available to newsmen in Ibadan by the acting publicity secretary of the Party, Mr Michael Ogunsina, the party said it is crystal clear to all that the outcry of the APC over the outcome of the local government election has been touring length tested in court and it has shown that the APC has no basis to continue to disparage an exercise which has been adjusted credible by unbiased stakeholders in the State. He also charged the opposition party to join hands with local government chairmen for the development of their respective councils.
The Party also congratulated its candidate for winning at the tribunal. He was also tasked to seize the opportunity the tribunal presented to him to discharge his duties tí his constituents with renewed vigor.
