FG declares May 27–28 public holidays for Eid-el-Kabir

The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, May 27, and Wednesday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government. In a statement issued by the Ministry, the minister congratulated Muslims across Nigeria and in the diaspora on the occasion of the festival.
He urged Nigerians to embrace the values of sacrifice, obedience, tolerance, and compassion which Eid-el-Kabir symbolizes, stressing the need for unity and peaceful coexistence among citizens.

Tunji-Ojo also called on Nigerians to use the festive period to pray for the peace, stability, and continued progress of the country, while assuring citizens of the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring security and improving the welfare of the people.

The minister further wished all Muslim faithful a peaceful and joyous Eid-el-Kabir celebration and encouraged everyone to celebrate responsibly.
