Nigeria’s democracy is at a dangerous crossroads. What we are witnessing today, oppression, victimization, selective justice, and blatant bias against the opposition is a direct threat to the soul of our nation. Democracy thrives on plurality, accountability, and fairness. Any attempt to silence opposition or weaken alternative voices is an assault on the collective will of the people.
The continued targeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by forces aligned with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) must stop. The intention to turn Nigeria into a one-party state where no one is checked, criticized, or held accountable runs contrary to democratic principles and the sacrifices made by our heroes past. We must all rise and say NO.
This is a clarion call to all civil society organizations across Nigeria , Democracy is dying before our eyes, and silence is no longer an option. The power to defend democracy remains firmly in the hands of the electorate our Permanent Voter Cards. That power must be exercised with courage and conviction.
We also call out the troubling role of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). It is deeply concerning that the Ekiti State PDP primary election duly monitored by INEC itself was later disregarded. Such inconsistency erodes public trust and fuels suspicion of bias. An electoral umpire must be impartial, transparent, and just, or democracy collapses.
To the so-called devil’s advocates Nyesom Wike and Ayo Fayose, history and posterity will render their judgment. The party that nurtured and elevated you must not be the one you seek to destroy. The ladder you climbed to success should not be kicked away from the youths yearning for opportunity. A day will come when the conscience of the youth you denied will speak loudly.
We call on the Nigeria Labour Congress and all pro-democracy groups, WHERE ARE YOU ? This is not the time to fold arms. When democracy is under siege, neutrality is complicity.
We reaffirm our total and unwavering support for our Governor, Seyi Makinde, as he stands firmly on the side of justice, fairness, and democratic values. Oyo State will stand solidly behind him. The people of Afijio are resolute. Our royal fathers, chiefs, and party faithful under the steadfast leadership of CHIEF SUNDAY OGUNLADE are united in purpose and conviction.
We shall resist intimidation. We shall not be silenced. We shall not surrender our democracy. PDP must not die. Nigeria must not become a one-party state.
Above all, we believe this… we shall overcome.
Nigeria ko ni baje
Oyo State ko ni baje
Afijio ko ni baje o
Hon. Arabambi Afijio
