Oyo @50: Council Chairmen Celebrate State’s Milestones, Hail Governor Makinde’s Leadership

Chairmen of the 33 local government areas in Oyo State have described the forthcoming 50th anniversary of the state as a celebration of sterling records, citing the achievements recorded across various sectors under the present administration.

The state Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Monday unveiled the Oyo @50 logo and commenced the 50-day countdown to the golden jubilee of the state’s creation, saying the Pacesetter State has recorded remarkable progress, development and growth over the past five decades

The council chairmen, speaking under the aegis of the Oyo State Local Government Chairmen’s Forum, noted that the golden jubilee offers an opportunity to reflect on the state’s journey since its creation and to showcase the progress made in governance, infrastructure development, security, education and economic growth.

According to the chairmen, Oyo State has witnessed remarkable improvements in grassroots development, with local governments playing key roles in complementing the state government’s policies and programmes.

They highlighted increased investment in rural infrastructure, healthcare delivery, education and security as evidence of purposeful leadership and effective collaboration between the state and local governments.

The forum further stated that the @50 celebration would not only honour past leaders and founding fathers of the state, but also project Oyo State’s achievements to the world, positioning it as a model of good governance and sustainable development in Nigeria.

They commended Governor Seyi Makinde for his inclusive leadership style, which they said has empowered local governments to contribute meaningfully to the state’s development agenda, stressing that the golden jubilee would be a moment of pride for all indigenes and residents of the state.

The council chairmen urged citizens to actively participate in the anniversary activities, describing the Oyo @50 celebration as a unifying event that symbolises resilience, progress and a renewed commitment to building a greater Oyo State.
