A group under the auspices of ‘Omo Yoruba Vanguard’, has dragged the Oyo North Senator, Fatai Buhari, for using Hausa to make his remarks during the commissioning of newly-renovated multi-billion Naira Iseyin Central Mosque facilitated by legal icon, Ahmed Raji, SAN.

Buhari, who was also among the special guest of honor at the event, had addressed the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar; Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, as well as other eminent personalities in attendance with Hthe ausa language instead of his own mother’s Yoruba language.

In a statement obtained by this online medium on Friday, the group’s spokesman, Bashir Olaiya, faulted the idea of Senator Buhari communicating in Hausa in a gathering largely dominated by Yoruba people.

According to him, one wonders why the third-term serving senator would attempt to disparage his language or the widely used English language despite being an illustrious son of Ogbomoso and representing the Yorubas.

Monumental Legacy

Olaiya noted that the current senator had committed a mistake by eschewing the language of his own mother’s tongue to romance northerners, who had always taken pride in their Hausa language wherever they found themselves.

Biiro D Solution

Noting that the Senator’s antics were part of a ruse he had been using in the Oke-Ogun zone to get the votes of the Arewa despite not having the support of his people from Ogbomoso every election year, the group added that the Senator may not have been representing the interests of the Yoruba race.

Part of the statement read: “We find it extremely disappointing that Fatai Buhari, a senator representing Oyo North Senatorial district, could have spoken in a language we couldn’t understand at a gathering mostly attended by Yoruba people, let alone translating everything he said from Hausa into Yoruba.

“People were just wondering why our senator and a distinguished son of Ogbomoso wouldn’t have spoken to us in Yoruba or English during the commissioning of the Iseyin Central Mosque.

“Without mincing words, this act has demonstrated that Senator Fatai Buhari is not a haughty Yoruba man. I wonder, then, how we Oke-ogun indigenes, also known as “Omoluabi,” could have allowed him to represent us all for this long, to the point where he could even make fun of both our Yoruba language and the widely used English language spoken abroad.

“Do we have to be looking for an interpreter to know what he said at the program? This is so disappointing”, the statement added.
