We didn’t authorise 2026 tax stickers, Oyo Internal Revenue Service mgt warns public
The Oyo State Internal Revenue Service has called on the members of the public, especially traders and artisans, not to be deceived by some individuals selling stickers purported in the name of the BIRS.
The said stickers, purporting to provide tax cover for traders, artisans for 2026, are being sold by individuals bearing letters allegedly backed by the BIRS.
The management of the Board has, however, disclaimed such letters, noting that it has not authorised anyone to sell any stickers.
A statement made available to newsmen by the Board read in part: “It has come to our notice at the Board of Internal Revenue Service that various stickers are being sold to unsuspecting members of the public, purporting to cover them for 2026 tax.
“The Board has not authorised anyone to sell any sticker.
“The Oyo State Internal Revenue Service also wishes to bring to the notice of the public that no action is to be taken on informal tax until the Oyo State House of Assembly passes the Oyo State Law on Taxes and Levies to replace the 1998 Act signed by the Military Government but was abrogated by the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 2025.
“This is to sensitise the members of public to disregard the name of the BIR being used for any such collection, as all collections that have to do with the BIR are only to be paid into a government account and not personal accounts.”
