Video: One Feared Dead as Clash Between Scavengers and Traders Disrupts Activities in Ibadan’s Ojoo Area

A violent clash between suspected scavengers and traders caused panic in the Ojoo area of Akinyele Local Government Area, Ibadan, on Tuesday evening, with one person reportedly losing her life.

According to eyewitness accounts, the incident began after an argument between a group of scavengers, popularly referred to as “Bowler Boys,” and some Yoruba traders in the area. The disagreement reportedly escalated into violence.

Residents alleged that an unidentified woman was fatally stabbed while attempting to intervene and restore peace during the confrontation. However, the circumstances surrounding her death have not been officially confirmed by security authorities.
A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, claimed that the growing activities of scavengers in the Ojoo axis had become a source of concern for traders and residents, citing recurring disputes and allegations of unruly conduct.

Following the incident, operatives of the Nigeria Police Force and the Oyo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun Corps) were deployed to the area to restore order and prevent further violence or possible reprisal attacks.
As of the time of filing this report, commercial activities around the Ojoo Terminal remained disrupted, while many traders and commuters were said to be apprehensive over the situation.
The Oyo State Police Command had not released an official statement on the incident as of press time.
Meanwhile, residents have appealed to the state government, security agencies and community leaders to take proactive measures to address the recurring tensions in the area and prevent future occurrences.
