May the good Lord repose the soul of the departed. The demise of Hon. Akinremi, the immediate past federal representative for Ibadan North Federal Constituency, has drawn my attention to many things, some of which morality cannot fathom, particularly how fickle human nature can be when motivated by an unjustifiable lust for power.
It’s actually not surprising, given the complexity of the Ibadan North political landscape—complexity that we often create for ourselves.
While I do not see anything wrong with people aspiring to a political position, I find it morally unjust when individuals who have not contributed to a process attempt to circumvent it.
Interestingly, those who played their part during the election we are about to reconduct are doing so with a sense of moral consciousness. Yet our dear egbon, who was never part of the process and did not contest for the position at any point, is desperately maligning people through pseudonyms.
In my opinion, these unnecessary publications with non-existent signatures point to one thing: irrelevance and desperation. In my experience, people with such an approach never achieve their ambitions. It is also only a politically naive person who would think that social media is a legitimate path to a ticket they have no rightful claim to.
All in all, let us ensure that we conduct ourselves in a way that allows us to reunite after a candidate has emerged. This advice is especially for the political followers, as it is easier for your leaders to navigate, but what about you?
