Sarumi Calls for Unity as INEC Sets Date for the Ibadan North Federal Constituency Bye-Elections
Hon. Lanre Sarumi, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Ibadan North Federal Constituency in the last general election, has described the recent announcement by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a bye-election in August as a great relief for the people of the constituency.

While responding to news correspondents this afternoon, Hon. Sarumi said the decision by INEC offers renewed hope to the constituents who have been shortchanged for several months due to the absence of a representative at the House of Representatives. According to him, this lack of representation has denied the people their constitutional right to be heard at the national level.

“This is indeed a welcome development. Our people have been without a voice in the Green Chamber for months. It has affected our ability to channel concerns, attract developmental attention, and participate fully in the national discourse. This bye-election presents an opportunity to correct that,” he said.

Hon. Sarumi, while addressing members of the PDP in Ibadan North, urged for calm, unity, and strategic cooperation as the party prepares for the forthcoming election.
“This is not the time to heat up the polity or make it a battle among ourselves. Like our dear Governor Seyi Makinde always says, it should be the people against the APC. We must stay united to form a formidable force that will give the people the moral support they need to vote against the poverty-weaponizing APC-led Federal Government at the polls,” he stated.

He further thanked Governor Seyi Makinde for his unwavering leadership, resilience, and commitment in repositioning the PDP both in Oyo State and on the national stage. “Your Excellency, your visionary leadership continues to inspire hope and guide us through these times. We are proud of your work and your unrelenting efforts to return the PDP to its glorious days,” he added.
Hon. Sarumi also extended his heartfelt appreciation to the people and party leadership of Ibadan North Federal Constituency for their continued support and belief in his political journey.

“I remain committed to the cause of our people, and with your support, we will deliver a representative that truly speaks for and stands with the people,” he concluded.
INEC today officially announced its plan to conduct bye-elections into various vacant seats across the country in August 2025, including that of the Ibadan North Federal Constituency.
