Protecting Students’ Interests: Polytechnic Ibadan Takes Action Against Extortionate Business Practices
The Acting Rector of The polytechnic,Ibadan,Dr Taiwo Abideen Lasisi has issued stern warning to business centers and cyber cafe operators in the institution on report of extortion of students.
The Acting Rector issued this warning during a meeting between the Management of the institution with business centers/cyber cafe operators at the North Campus Assembly Hall of TPI on Friday(22nd of November,2024).
The Acting Rector noted that report reaching his office indicate that the operators charge huge amount of money on services rendered to the students.These exorbitant charges translate into illegality and extortion.
He said the Management will not hesitate to send any of the operators discovered to be operating outside the guidelines given by the institution,adding that any activity by any operator that amount to crime will be treated as such and the police will be invited to investigate and prosecute.
He further said that a joint committee made up of the institution’s representatives and that of the cyber operators’ association will look critically into the activities of the cyber operators to regulate the operations to ensure that they are in tandem with the regulations and the interests of the students.
The meeting presided over by the Acting Rector,Dr.Taiwo Abideen Lasisi was attended by the Deputy Rector,Mrs Olaide Salawu,Acting Registrar,Mr Joseph Adewumi Ogunjimi and other Management team.
