Oyo State Government Clarifies Ibadan Circular Road Project, Halts Demolitions
The Oyo State Government has provided updates on the Ibadan Circular Road project, reassuring residents that their welfare is a top priority.
At a joint press conference held on Friday, Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Mr. Williams Akin-Funmilayo, and Commissioner for Public Works and Transport, Professor Dahud Kehinde Shangodoyin, addressed concerns surrounding the project.
Mr. Akin-Funmilayo announced that the government has halted marking and demolition of buildings along the Circular Road. “We have stopped the demolition and marking of buildings beyond the one hundred and fifty-meter mark,” he said.
Regarding land acquisition, Akin-Funmilayo clarified, “The government has not acquired any new land beyond the original one hundred and fifty-meter radius established in two thousand and six.”
The government has begun counting affected houses to determine compensation for owners, Akin-Funmilayo added. “The marking of buildings is for enumeration purposes, not demolition. Our goal is to minimize disruptions and ensure the project benefits the community.”
Professor Shangodoyin provided additional insights into the project’s infrastructure development, reaffirming the government’s commitment to enhancing the state’s transportation network. “We are committed to ensuring that this project brings value to our citizens, and we will continue to engage with stakeholders throughout its duration.”
On the preservation of settlements, Akin-Funmilayo said, “Existing settlements within the acquired area will be preserved, and some affected individuals will receive alternative land to build new structures.”
With the clarification provided, the Oyo State Government has demonstrated its commitment to transparency, accountability, and the well-being of its citizens. The temporary halt on demolitions and enumeration of affected houses mark a significant step towards finding a balance between development and the protection of residents’ interests.
