Oyo LGSC Chair’ Aderemi Lauds Makinde Over Wage Awards, Charges Local Government Staff To Be More Dedicated To Their Duties

As part of its statutory functions which is to instill discipline and ensure strict compliance with the rules and regulations of the local government service, the Chairman, of Oyo Local Government Service Commission, Hon Aderemi Ayodele along with Board members and top management staff decided to pay an unscheduled visit to some local governments in Oyo State, to have on the spot assessment of staff commitment and dedication to duty.

Speaking during the visit to Ona Ara Local Government, Akanran and Inukan LCDA, Ajia, Hon Aderemi Ayodele charged the local government staff to be more dedicated, and focused and strive for excellent service delivery.

He emphasized the need for workers to discharge their duties with gusto adding that workers have no excuses to make for nonperformance, stressing that Governor Seyi Makinde has done much to raise the bar of the civil/public service and improved the welfare of workers in addition to robust capacity building programs.

Hon. Aderemi Ayodele recalled that within a space of six months, Governor Makinde has approved the outstanding promotion arrears of years 2021& 2022 for eligible officers both at the State and Local Government levels, noting that by the end of the Year 2022 promotion exercise, all eligible Government employees would have earned their promotions as and when due.

While commending the Governor for these significant feats, in the presence of excited local government staff, the Commission’s Chairman further noted that the prompt payment of the wage awards to the workers was not only timely but pleasantly amazing and highly commendable describing Governor Makinde as a distinctive democrat and man of his words.

Giving reasons for the unexpected visit, Hon Aderemi Ayodele explained that the Commission had decided randomly to pay unscheduled visits to local governments, to checkmate absenteeism and lateness to work and strongly advised the workers to always be punctual and discharge their duties diligently.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary of the Commission, Deacon Taiwo Olafimihan Adewale stated that sustained efforts are being made towards rebranding the local government service with the consistent training and retraining of local government staff and reiterated that substandard practice would no longer be accepted in the local government service urging all local government staff to strive to avail themselves of the window of opportunities for steady career progression opened by Governor Makinde led administration.

The Permanent Secretary further urged the local government staff to evolve ways of adding value to the service, such as taking a professional approach to duty through the maintenance of standards, discipline, values, and ethics. He seized the opportunity to implore civil/ public servants to shun any act of misconduct that could earn them dire consequences.

Responding on behalf of the staff of Ona Ara Local Government, the Head of Local Government Administration, Dr. Dapo Atoyebi commended the Commission Board members for the visitation and assured that all rules and regulations guiding the service would strictly be adhered to, for optimum performance. He later expressed the worker’s unflinching support for the current administration in the state, which he said has unprecedentedly raised the bar of the service.
