“Leadership is about more than authority and being in charge. A successful leader doesn’t even need to have an official title. This is because a title doesn’t automatically mean you’re a leader — especially a good one. And, not having a title doesn’t mean that you can’t be a leader.”

Though some people think leadership is about ordering people around, it’s really about being a source of empowerment for others, so they can achieve success for themselves and the system. It’s also about being able to make decisions in favor of the bigger picture or the administration’s goals, rather than for your gain.

Sarumi

Hear this, anyone can call themselves a leader. But to make an impact on your downline or your team, you need to learn a few essential leadership qualities. In 2003, when I met Engr Seyi MAKINDE (ESM), his gentle words, and meek statement towards the masses on that fateful day melted my beloved heart hence why I decided to adopt him as my role model as well as a rare specie to look up to as emerging MILLENNIAL.

And in 2007, when he picked up the mandate to contest for Oyo South Senatorial District, his agenda to bring dynamism to modern-day politics and heartfelt manifestos shared with the people during his campaign were worthy promises that raised my hope and confidently, gallantly guaranteed me a promising future ahead of me hence why I will share with you some of the Gov. Makinde’s essential naturals that have made him become who he is today.

Monumental Legacy

As a branded full-blooded son of the soil and ancestor of the generational system, one of the essentials he possesses is Drive:
Great leaders aren’t passive. They’re highly motivated, and they truly believe in the vision of the organization. This passion is contagious, but rare to covet. His team is lucky to have a driven leader, highly motivated to work with anyone, and so far he/she is cerebral.

Secondly, he possesses a Resilience attitude,
being the one in charge isn’t easy. 37% of managers report that they felt a lot of stress during their most recent workday. But when you’re a leader, you can’t let the non-stop challenges dishearten you, his adaptability and resiliency indicators are key to so many valiant achievements he has been able to accomplish in the past four years of his administration.

Makinde as a dangerous achiever, silent in decision-making may feel sometimes frustrated, and hard from the inside, but being a good leader with big-picture thinking, and soft touch does work on his mental fitness continuously, and pushes forward despite the tight knocks. He often takes pleasure in overcoming obstacles through creative problem-solving ideals and firmness, hence who he is.

The Governor Seyi Makinde-led administration’s divine acumen has also touched many a sector like the Oyo State economy contained in the Roadmap to Accelerated Development in Oyo State, 2019-2023 (Infrastructure, Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Youth and Sports, Environment and Natural Resources and Energy and Mineral Resources). Achievements in the listed sectors have contributed to the overall growth of the economy, leading to an increase in internally generated revenue (IGR) from N1.7 billion monthly in 2019 to N3.5 billion monthly to date.

From the above-mentioned areas of great performance under his administration, he made some Promises in Infrastructure Development, and with fact-checked, I can confirm to all and sundry that the below listed were processed and realized under his four years term.

In less than four years, Governor Makinde-led administration has embarked on the following projects to ensure safe, adequate, and efficient transport infrastructure that can sustain the social and economic development of the state includes:

The construction of four modern bus terminals strategically located at exits and entrances of Ibadan; Iwo Road, New Ife Road, Challenge, and Ojoo to serve intercity and intercity commuting. Two of the bus terminals located at Challenge and Ojoo have been completed under a park management system that is generating at least 60-70 million every month into the state purse through local Government while the other two are ongoing.

Construction of new roads and reconstruction/rehabilitation of existing roads and bridges across the state.
Installation of traffic lights at major intersections in Ibadan.

In the past few years of his administration, the Oyo State Government has constructed and reconstructed/rehabilitated a total of 545.26 km of roads across Oyo State. The major roads are:

The Oyo State Government, through Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP), had carried out various studies and surveys on rural roads which had led to the digitization of 452.80 km of rural roads for Spot Improvement, 687.60 km of rural roads for routine maintenance and 187.25 km rural roads for rehabilitation. The government made the counterpart funding of N350 million for RAAMP in July 2019 and is waiting for the disbursement of funds by the World Bank to commence the rehabilitation.

In addition to the roads listed above, Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration has executed the following road projects to facilitate movement around the state:

Reconstruction of Adegbayi Junction to the bus terminal stations at the Iwo Road interchange along the proposed Ibadan-Ife Expressway rehabilitation project.

The asphalt construction/rehabilitation Of Lasisi Apapa Street, Off Queen Elizabeth Road, Agodi, Ibadan.
Rehabilitation of Ecobank Bode Isalu-AHIS Road (5.5 km).
Engage in private partnerships to improve road facilities.

On a final note, having a man of fair notes, whose originality, and firmness can’t be eschewed, and who could be able to put all above elephant achievement with facts, and figures across the state, five zones altogether, whose style of leadership is a reflection modern day politics, democracy void of Nepotism Biasness, favoritism, and godfatherism had won the electorates mind to be their most preferred choice of the candidate among others in the Guber race come march 18 Governorship election.

As I round off this piece, what Gov. Makinde has done in less than four years can’t be achieved within twelve years of any government hence leaving you with his parting words as we go into the Election:
“I may not get to speak to you again before the election, but let me leave you with these parting words: the Governorship and House of Assembly election in Oyo State on March 18, 2023, is not about whether we will win or not; it is about our winning margin. Let’s go out there and make it huge!”

God Bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria
God Bless Oyo State and Its Environment.
