Oyo Council Chairmen Hail Makinde for Honouring Ex-Gov. Olunloyo
The Forum of Local Government Chairmen in Oyo State has applauded Governor Seyi Makinde for the honour accorded to former Governor Dr. Omololu Olunloyo during his lying-in-state and final burial rites.

The chairmen praised Makinde’s tributes, which included the announcement of a modern, digitized public library to be established in memory of Olunloyo, fulfilling one of the late statesman’s long-held dreams. The governor also renamed The Polytechnic Ibadan after Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo to further cementing his legacy.

In a statement jointly issued by the forum’s Public Relations Officer, Hon. Ibrahim Akintayo, and signed by its Chairman, Hon. Sikiru Oyedele Sanda, the chairmen described Makinde’s gestures as a demonstration of profound respect for the contributions of one of the state’s most distinguished leaders.

They noted that the state-organized events were not just ceremonial but served as a powerful recognition of Olunloyo’s enduring impact as a former governor and intellectual icon.
“We, the local government chairmen, express our heartfelt appreciation to Governor Seyi Makinde for the honour and dignity bestowed upon the late Dr. Omololu Olunloyo. This gesture affirms that Oyo State does not forget its heroes,” the statement read.

The forum described Olunloyo as “a rare gem, a brilliant scholar, and a visionary leader,” and pledged their full support for initiatives aimed at preserving the legacies of past leaders. They also called on stakeholders to join in sustaining the memory of Dr. Olunloyo and others like him.
As Oyo State continues to mourn, the chairmen offered prayers for the peaceful repose of the late leader and comfort for his family.
