OPINION: Of A Today Hypocritical Leader~ Lukuman Agboluaje
Our elders have a saying ‘ agbalagba to so yangan modi sora re di alawada adie meaning an elder that tie combs of maize to his apron makes himself a target of henpecking.
No matter how long it may take, the true colour of a hypocrite would be manifested, especially if he lives long. Efin ni iwa meaning character is a smoke that cannot be hidden for long, it would soon emit its true colour and odour.
Our people, especially the Yoruba always identify with and offer sympathy to a perceived underdog. I could remember that no sooner did Late Lamidi Adedibu made this character a governor after the 113 versus 114 P.D.P. primary election debacle at the Eagle Square and helping him to trash the Great Lam at the gubernatorial election that he immediately he was sworn in declared a war with his benefactor on the ground of not wanting a godfather that would be breathing down his neck. His quarrel with Adedibu on the basis of not wanting to be a puppet was widely applauded and made him a folk hero.
When Adedibu with the backing of OBJ got this character impeached with less than two third constitutional approval of members of the state house of assembly, the people heaved a sigh of relief when he was reinstated by the Supreme Court. The benefactor of this coup Akala was never forgiven till he died. Despite Akala’s humaneness this event became his albatross in public discourse.
Today this character is annoyed with GSM because the later also proclaim that he has no godfather. Yet GSM gave him far more respect than he did to his own benefactor and with greater reverence than Koseleri or any other governor gave him.
I could also remember that to weaken Adedibu’s support for Akala, the Ibadan traditional chieftaincy council came out with a directive prohibiting senior chiefs from actively participating in politics. The people also heaved a sigh of relief recently when this character pronounced that he was quiting partisan politics and would want to be an elder statesman. He is today a very senior chief, the second or third in rank to the utmost stool
Alas about 3 days ago, this character was shown in a video that has gone viral canvassing the people to vote a particular candidate. The candidate he said people should vote for was one of those that saw to his replacement with Akala. Not only this his other companion in the video was the person Akala used as his deputy when he supplanted this character. Though Akala’s deputy at this time was never recognized by the courts and so remains illicit. So you can see how strange bed fellows can be brought together in a rebellion.
However on enquiry I was able to find out that what brought this erstwhile political enemies together is the desire of Akala’s deputy to have a bite in Atiku’s election mobilization fund that is said to be in the custody of the character.
Maybe you need to know more about Atiku’s election mobilization fund, few days to the election Atiku was said to have distributed some money mostly in dollars to his key supporters in various states of the federation. Since Seyi Makinde belongs to the G5, this fund that was meant to prosecute the presidential and national assembly elections could not pass through him, so this character that Atiku thought was his bossom friend was said to have had the fund delivered to him on instruction. However except for some two hundred dollars given to some mogaji the remaining fund well over a million and half dollars is said to be in the custody of this character.
What would eventually come out of this is yet unknown, however an audio recording by a person who claimed to be Atiku supporter is threatening hell and brimstone on those who received Atiku’s money but refused to work for him or even used the money against him by employing it to prosecute the election of his opponents. How far this person or persons can carry out the threat remain to be seen.
To be concluded
