The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State has taken a jibe at Senator Fatai Buhari over the recent commissioning of a mosque in Ogbomoso, expressing concern that the ceremony took priority over pressing infrastructural needs in the region.

The mosque, a personal project funded by Senator Buhari, has sparked controversy as critics argue that resources and attention should instead be directed towards improving the lives of people in his constituency, especially in the light of the ongoing hardships faced by Nigerians across the the country and fixing the deteriorating Ogbomoso – Oyo old road and Ogbomoso-Ilorin expressway and improving local infrastructure.

The Oyo State PDP in a statement berated the overrated senator stating that since his inception in office as a senator, he has not moved any motion or bill that received consideration, instead chose to inaugurate a mosque in a town plagued by poor road conditions, which have left parts of Ogbomoso increasingly isolated and posed significant risks and health hazards to the residents and travelers. “It is unfortunate that Senator Buhari, who won office for three consecutive times has
prioritized a religious structure over essential infrastructure,” the party’s statement read.

Monumental Legacy

The PDP also raised concerns over other projects initiated by Senator Buhari, including an un-equipped hospital and a library in some parts of the Oke Ogun lacking basic supplies.

According to the party, these facilities remain largely ineffective in their current state. “The senator built a hospital without medical equipments and libraries without books or other essential supplies,” the statement noted, questioning his commitment to meaningful development in his constituency.

This needless personal project have sparked aggravation among local residents who have voiced their frustration over the abandoned Ogbomoso-Ilorin expressway, a federal road project which has lingered for years without completion. Though promises have been made to finish the expressway, the road has remained in disrepair even under the administration of President Bola Tinubu, with no recent progress reported in the last year.

Many who have visited Ogbomoso in recent weeks attest to the poor condition of the road, which they say is in desperate need of attention. Local leaders and community members have continued to call on federal and state authorities to prioritize the expressway, stressing that improvements to such vital infrastructure are far more pressing than symbolic projects.
