NAFDAC Raises Alarm Over Indomie Vegetable Flavour Noodles Linked to Allergen Risk

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a public alert advising Nigerians to avoid Indomie Vegetable Flavour noodles, following an international recall linked to undeclared allergens.

According to the regulatory agency, the affected product contains milk and eggs that were not declared on the label, posing a significant health risk to consumers with allergies or intolerances to these substances.

In a statement, NAFDAC disclosed that the recall notice was originally issued by Rappel Conso, the French food safety authority, after identifying the allergen risk in the Indomie Vegetable Flavour product.

NAFDAC noted that although the official risk of the product entering Nigeria is low, due to the Federal Government’s ban on the importation of noodles, there is still a need for heightened vigilance. The agency warned that the product could enter the country through illicit trade channels, online purchases, or international travel.

“As a precautionary measure, NAFDAC has commenced vigilance activities to prevent the possible entry and circulation of the implicated foreign Indomie brand within Nigeria,” the statement said.

The agency urged distributors, retailers, and consumers to be alert and ensure that the recalled product is not distributed, sold, or consumed within the country.

NAFDAC further advised consumers who may come across the affected product to discard it immediately and refrain from consumption, while reporting any suspected sale of the Indomie Vegetable Flavour noodles to the nearest NAFDAC office.
