Mr Emmanuel Olaitan Johnson, a Turkey-based Nigerian has given a narrowing experience on how he survived with his family from the earthquake that killed more than 3000 people in Turkey and Syria on Monday. The survivor who spoke with BBC Pidgin revealed that when the unfortunate incident wanted to happen, he sensed that the walls of his building started having cracks and as at that time of the day, 4am, his wife and him were not putting on any clothes. Johnson further revealed that he quickly grabbed his wife and his children and ran out of the building because all that mattered to them at that moment was their lives and not about their nakedness and they didn’t bother if anyone was looking at them.

The survivor said, “My wife and I were naked when the earthquake started and we ran out undressed like that.”

Continuing speaking, Johnson noted that after they ran out of the building, he had to take another bold step by running inside alone to get some of their most valuable items like some clothes and their documents before the building eventually collapsed. While further narrating his ordeal, Johnson revealed that they walked barefoot on the snow to a far distance so that they could be saved from the disaster and right now, that are homeless.

“Before my house broke down, I ran inside twice to pick shoes for myself, wife and children and also pick up our documents. While I was using my building’s staircase, I almost lost my footing while climbing because of the earthquake’s magnitude and how the building was shaking,” he added.
