Makinde Reassures PDP, Labels Expelled Members as ‘Vagabonds’ as New Secretariat Is Commissioned

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has expressed confidence that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will secure justice over ongoing legal challenges facing the party, even as it emerges stronger and more disciplined.

The governor made the remarks during the commissioning of the newly built PDP Secretariat at Oke-Ado, Ibadan, describing the judiciary as the last hope of the common man. He stressed that while falsehood may endure, the truth will eventually prevail, and expressed absolute trust in Nigeria’s judicial system to resolve all pending cases in the party’s favor.

Reflecting on the internal crisis that plagued the PDP after losing federal power in 2015, Governor Makinde attributed the party’s challenges to a leadership vacuum, which created room for indiscipline and discord. Criticizing some former leaders and expelled members linked to ongoing political rifts, he described their actions as disruptive to the peace and unity of the PDP.

“The decisive steps taken in November 2025 to expel such members were necessary to restore order and discipline within the party,” the governor stated. He also acknowledged having worked with some of these individuals after assuming office in 2019 but emphasized that he has since distanced himself from disruptive elements.

Governor Makinde reaffirmed that the PDP will not be influenced by any individual or weakened for the benefit of another political party, pledging to continue strengthening the party ahead of future political engagements.

Earlier, Hon. Dayo Ogungbenro, Chairman of the Oyo State PDP, urged party members to intensify their commitment and loyalty as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections. He stressed that such commitment should be demonstrated through unity, hard work, and electoral preparedness, adding that politics is a democratic process that allows citizens to express their choices every four years.

Ogungbenro expressed optimism that the PDP would once again secure victory in 2027, attributing this confidence to the support of the electorate and divine providence.

At the commissioning ceremony, Governor Makinde announced that the new Secretariat would be named after Alhaji Omokunmi Mustapha, a former Chairman of the Oyo State PDP, in recognition of his contributions. The governor formally handed over the building documents to the National Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Tanimu Turaki, marking the official takeover of the party house.

The event drew distinguished guests, including Former Kano State Governor Ibrahim Shekarau, National PDP Chairman Tanimu Turaki, Deputy PDP Chairman South Taofeek Arapaja, PDP South-West Chairman Kamorudeen Ajisafe, as well as party leaders, stakeholders, and supporters from across Oyo State and beyond.
