Makinde Reaffirms Loyalty to PDP at Omituntun Ramadan Lecture
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has emphatically declared that he will remain a loyal member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), dismissing speculation about any potential defection as political noise.
The statement was made today, Thursday, during the annual Omituntun Ramadan lecture held at the Government House Arcade in Ibadan, where the governor also addressed fellow politicians, religious leaders, and residents.
Governor Makinde insisted that his allegiance to the PDP remains firm, underscoring his commitment to the party’s ideals and its role in Nigeria’s democratic process. His comments come amid heightened political speculation ahead of the 2027 general elections, during which several high-profile politicians have been linked with possible party switches.
While speaking at the lecture, Makinde emphasized that remaining in the PDP is key to the party’s future stability and success, particularly as political activities intensify across the country. He also used the occasion to urge Nigerians to focus on unity, peace, and peaceful coexistence during the Ramadan period.
The governor’s reaffirmation comes at a time of heightened political conversations around party allegiance and election strategies, and it signals his intention to stay rooted in his political home as the country prepares for another cycle of national elections.
