Residents and road users in the Olodo area were filled with joy on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, as the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, FNSE, fulfilled his promise by commissioning the newly constructed 2-span, 20 by 20-meter bridge in the community.

Governor Makinde, who was represented at the commissioning ceremony by his Deputy, Barr. Bayo Lawal, was joined by commissioners and top government officials in what residents described as a momentous occasion for the community.

Speaking at the event, Barr. Bayo Lawal said the bridge stands as a testament to the Makinde administration’s commitment to sustainable development through modern infrastructure. He noted that the new bridge will provide safe and accessible transportation for road users and facilitate easier access to neighboring states.

“The completion of this bridge reflects Governor Seyi Makinde’s unwavering dedication to enhancing infrastructure that connects our communities and supports regional development,” he said.

Chairman of Egbeda Local Government, Hon. Sanda, recalled that the former bridge collapsed on July 3, 2023, following a devastating flood caused by torrential rainfall. The incident, he said, subjected residents and commuters to months of hardship.

Monumental Legacy

Hon. Sanda praised the governor for his timely intervention, noting that the community’s plea through the local government was met with prompt action. “Without the governor’s proactive approach, the situation could have turned tragic. His Excellency responded swiftly and compassionately, preventing further danger,” he added.

He emphasized the strategic importance of the road, stating that it not only serves the Olodo community but also connects to other states, making it a vital artery for economic and social development.

Expressing deep appreciation, Hon. Sanda thanked the engineers, contractors, local government staff, and all stakeholders whose professionalism and dedication ensured the successful completion of the project. “Today, we proudly celebrate the fruit of collective resilience and hard work,” he said.
