It was carnival-like with fanfare by a mammoth crowd of the party and nonparty members alike in Oluyole on Saturday (today) as the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Abdulmojeed Mogbonjubola, and the Executive Chairman, Oyo Pacesetter Transport Company, Dikko Salami threw their weights behind the electioneering campaign of Akeem Olatunji.
While Mogbonjubola donated the sum of one million naira, Dikko on the other hand equally donated the sum of two hundred and fifty thousand naira in support of Olatunji’s political campaign.
Olatunji who is the chairmanship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the coming April Local Government election in Oyo state was also the immediate past Publicity Secretary of the party in the state.
Speaking shortly after the announcement of financial donations by the two PDP chieftains at the campaign held at Community Primary School, Olomi on February 3, Olatunji expressed appreciation to God for counting him worthy of being elected as the chairmanship candidate of the party among numerous other eligible and ably qualified party members.
Olatunji, who was accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Balkis Olatunji, affirmed that the role of Governor Seyi Makinde in his personal political growth would go down anal of history as his lifetime benefactor, leader, and mentor, who graciously allowed him to fly the party’s flag at the coming election.
Expressing his deep appreciation to a close ally of the governor, Otunba Seye Famujoro, for his selflessness towards his personal political development in the scheme of things within the political landscape, Olatunji described the governor’s friend as a man who has made himself a staircase upon which others at the bottom can climb up in the ladder of life stressing that he would remain indebted to him for his leadership role.
Speaking on his vision for the people of Oluyole if elected, Olatunji said, no vision or plan could be better than Governor Makinde’s economic blueprint which has seen Oyo rise in leadership quality and good governance among other states of the federation, maintaining that he would simply domesticate the Sustainable Development Agenda to revolutionize the local government economy at the grassroots.
Olatunji noted that no governor in Nigeria today could boast of having any better economic expansion master plan than what Makinde is currently doing in Oyo state and as such, it was only logical for executive chairmen at the grassroots to simply key into the governor’s vision to bring about the needed policy and program cohesion.
Olatunji specifically stressed that his administration, if elected would be built around the four cardinal pillars, as contained in Governor Makinde’s economic expansion plan which includes, qualitative and accessible primary school education, improved healthcare, adequate security, and local economy expansion through infrastructural developments as a catalyst for improved revenue generation.
“The Governor told me, Akeem, go amd take good care of our people in Oluyole, and I can assure you that’s exactly what I’m here to do, to carry that instruction to the latter. My vision for our people is very clear and unambiguous. It is simply an adaptation of Governor Makinde’s economic blueprint that has revived our status among a comity of states as a truly pacesetter’s state with the tremendous achievements that have fully restored our sense of pride as a people.
” There’s no gainsaying that as of today in Nigeria, Governor Seyi Makinde has redefined what governance should be in the true sense of it and virtually all other governors are already taking a cue from what is happening in Oyo state, so, all we intend to do is domesticate and adapt the same blueprint bearing in mind our human and vast material resources in Oluyole and I can assure you that we will be committed to serving you from the first minute of our inauguration till the very last minute of it.” Olatunji said.
Earlier, The PDP chairman in Oluyole, Alhaji Mukaila Adegbola, and other party chieftains, who spoke at the event charged party members to remain steadfast and committed to the success of the coming election and to ensure that all candidates on the platform of the PDP emerge winners with a landslide victory.
Speaking with newsmen shortly after the event, the Executive Chairman of Oyo Pacesetter Transport Company, Dikko Salami, who also dolled out cash gifts to the women and youths wing of the party described Olatunji as the best candidate any political party could field to run for the coming chairmanship seat in Oluyole vowing to provide all the support that may be required of him as campaign activities progress.
