Ladoja/Arapaja Feud: Ibadan Youth Progressive Indigenes (IYPIA) Cautions Ibadan Mogajis over Undue Meddling in Political Affairs
The popular Ibadan indigenous group ‘Ibadan Youth Progressive Indigenes Association’ (IYPIA) has told ‘Ibadan Mogajis’ to maintain athe political status quo in the traditional leadership space— and do away with undue meddling in political affairs.
This is following the reaction of the compound heads (Mogajis) on Wednesday, to a brewing political interest feud between Sen. Rasheed Ladoja and Amb. Taofik Arapaja— A development Ibadan youths have declared to be “obviously politically motivated”.
In his address earlier today in Ibadan, President of ‘Ibadan Youth Progressive Indigenes AAssociation(IYPIA) Aare Ogunmola Sakiru Ishola said he express the group’s deepest concerns to the inherent dangers in the latest political feuding enterprise involving the once revered traditional leaders in Ibadan— “A trend that behooves us to want to revisit the role of traditional rulers in our society” he said.
“We have carefully reviewed a statement credited to Compound Heads (Mogajis) in Ibadan, in direct relation to the obvious political feud between Sen. Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja and Ambassador Taofik Arapaja”.
“Without prejudice to the validity or otherwise of the different positions— it’s apposite to sound a note of caution on same, at this time”, the group said.
In a new release on Wednesday, the group explicitly states;
“Following a careful review, no doubt, the issued statement by which the compound heads (Mogajis) have made known their stand on what’s seemingly a feud of political interest between Sen. Rasheed Ladoja and Amb. Taofik Arapaja was truly a ‘risky undertaking’— more than that. It was, to say the least, quite reckless!”
“The optics may be good and suitable for the concerned compound heads who may believe it’s apposite to be on the defense of one of their own, but the statement neither helped the cause of peace between the two warring parties nor put the traditional rulers in their most revered place”.
“Against this backdrop— we maintain that such political meddling by Ibadan Mogajis may have dangerously put what we understand as the ‘traditional leadership space’ in palpable desecration, here in Ibadan— This, we do not hope for in our dear land”.
“We on this note sound a note of caution to Ibadan Mogajis, to step back, and let political affairs be handled by politicians— this is before the ongoing development reaches its inflammable crescendo”.
“We state unequivocally that, should Ibadan Mogajis continue on this meddling trend to political affairs— it’s going to be very consequential and wholly damaging to the revered stool of traditional leaders in Ibadan”.
The group has called on some respectable compound heads in Ibadan city, among which were “Mogaji look, “Mogaji Adanla”, “Mogaji Wale Ladoja” and “Mogaji Alago” who are all well revered and referred to s the “Eminent Mogajis in Ibadan land”— for appropriate intervention in cautioning culpable compound heads who are on the verge of desecrating and putting the tradition leadership space on a threatening precipice.
