Just In: Shock Exit in Ibadan North as Hon. Atilola Olalekan (Olacash) Quits PDP, Blames Exclusion and Broken Rewards System

A prominent figure in Ibadan North Local Government of Oyo State politics, Hon. Olalekan Atilola, popularly known as Olacash, has officially announced his resignation from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), marking the end of a long-standing relationship with the party he has served for years.

Atilola, a recognized stalwart of the PDP, was until his resignation an aspirant for the Oyo State House of Assembly, seeking to represent Ibadan North State Constituency II, with a strong political base in Ward 7 of Ibadan North Local Government Area.

In a resignation letter addressed to the leadership of the party, Atilola cited several fundamental issues that informed his decision to part ways with the PDP. Chief among them are the lack of inclusiveness in party affairs, a poor reward system for loyal and committed members, and the persistent crisis rocking the party at the national level, which he described as detrimental to his political growth and aspirations.

According to him, the decision to leave the PDP was not taken lightly. He emphasized that he had devoted a significant portion of his political life to the party, contributing immensely to its growth and stability both at the grassroots level and across Oyo State. His years of service, he noted, were driven by a genuine commitment to democratic ideals and community development.

Atilola expressed deep appreciation to party members, supporters, and allies who stood by him throughout his journey within the PDP. He urged them to remain focused, resilient, and committed to the broader struggle for good governance and collective progress, irrespective of political platforms.

Although he did not disclose his next political destination in the resignation letter, strong indications within political circles suggest that Atilola may be heading to the Accord Party, a platform widely believed to be the political home of the growing “Oyo n pe o” movement.

Widely regarded as a grassroots politician and community mobilizer, Atilola commands significant influence, particularly among youths and local stakeholders in Ibadan North. His departure is seen by many observers as a notable loss to the PDP in the area, especially at a time when grassroots strength remains critical to electoral success.

As political realignments continue to shape Oyo State’s political landscape, Atilola’s next move is expected to attract considerable attention and could redefine the balance of power in Ibadan North and beyond.
