Just In: Makinde Cuts Short Leave to Personally Crown Olubadan-Designate Ladoja

Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has ended his one-month leave earlier than planned in order to personally preside over the historic coronation of the Olubadan-designate, Oba (Sen.) Abdulrashidi Adewolu Akanmu Ladoja.

Governor Makinde had handed over the reins of government to his deputy, Barr. Bayo Lawal, on August 29, 2025, with his official resumption date fixed for September 29, 2025. However, in a letter to the Oyo State House of Assembly, read on the floor today, September 25, 2025, the governor announced his decision to resume office immediately. Lawmakers received the notification with support, assuring of a smooth transition.

 

The development comes as the state prepares for the grand finale of the Olubadan coronation ceremonies on Friday, September 26, 2025, when Governor Makinde is expected to officially present the staff of office to the new monarch.

The coronation activities began on Monday, September 22, 2025, and will climax on Friday with the crowning of Oba Ladoja, a respected statesman and political figure.

 

Governor Makinde’s decision to cut short his leave underscores the importance his administration attaches to the traditional institution and the symbolic role of the Olubadan stool in Ibadan and Oyo State at large.
