Ibadan Convention: PDP Elects New National Chairman

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has elected its new national officers to run the affairs of the party.

The new leadership emerged at an elective National Convention held at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan.

Having scored highest votes in the contest that lasted for hours, the former Minister for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Kabiru Turaki, was affirmed as ithe PDP national chairman.

 

Kabiru Turaki, who was the sole candidate for the top position of the main opposition party, secured 1,516 votes.

His choice followed the earlier withdrawal of Lado Dan Marke, the 2023 governorship candidate of the PDP in Katsina state, from the race.

In his acceptance speech, Kabiru Turaki, said era of impunity was gone and promised to restore peace to the party

He said the leadership of the party would reconcile aggrevied members into the party to work for the progress and success of the party in future elections.

While speaking about the matter before the court, he urged the judiciary to be apolitical for the betterment of democracy.

Alhaji Taofeek Arapaja, who was the immediate National Vice Chairman of the party (South), emerged as the new National Secretary unopposed.

Meanwhile, Solarin Adekunle, defeated two other contentants to become the Deputy National Organizing Secretary
