Allied Peoples Movement (APM) governorship candidate in Oyo State, Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi, has opened up on his personal journey, political philosophy, and confidence ahead of the 2027 governorship election, declaring that integrity, accountability and inclusivity remain the pillars of his political life.
Speaking during a revealing interview on Akinyefa’s Podcast, Adekanmbi shared details of his humble beginnings, his professional career, reasons for leaving the All Progressives Congress (APC), and why he believes the APM is well-positioned to emerge victorious in the next general elections.
Reflecting on his early life, Adekanmbi said his story is one of resilience, discipline and determination. Despite earning a first degree in Accounting, he said he remains proud of his current occupation as a bricklayer, describing the profession as an honourable source of livelihood that has shaped his character and strengthened his work ethic.
According to him, every stage of his life has prepared him for leadership, both in public service and politics, stressing that dignity lies in honest labour rather than job titles.
The former Oyo State Commissioner also explained why he left the APC after many years of active participation, maintaining that the party lacked genuine inclusivity and failed to appreciate capable individuals.
He argued that one of the major shortcomings of the APC is its inability to harness the talents and contributions of committed members, a situation he said ultimately influenced his decision to seek a new political platform where ideas and competence are valued.
Speaking on his stewardship in government, Adekanmbi expressed confidence in his record of public service, insisting that transparency and accountability defined his tenure as commissioner.
“Nothing gives me greater confidence than my record in office. I can account for every kobo entrusted to me and I am ready to defend every decision I took whenever the need arises,” he said.
Adekanmbi further claimed that despite his exit from the APC, he still commands considerable goodwill and influence within the party in Oyo State.
According to him, the APC still appears formidable because he has deliberately refrained from deploying the political structures and relationships he built over the years.
He maintained that many loyal supporters within the APC still identify with him and hinted that the political landscape could change significantly when the time comes.
During the interview, the podcast host raised questions over donations made to victims of the Bode market inferno, noting that Adekanmbi’s contribution was lower than that of the APC candidate.
Responding, the APM standard-bearer said leadership should not be measured solely by the size of financial pledges but by prompt intervention and sincerity.
He explained that he donated what he could immediately to provide urgent relief for affected traders, arguing that timely assistance is more valuable than larger promises that remain unfulfilled.
“I believe in immediate impact. I gave what I could afford when it was needed most, rather than making promises that are yet to be redeemed,” he stated.
Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, Adekanmbi expressed optimism that the APM would record significant victories at both the state and federal levels.
He said the party has continued to build public confidence through its people-oriented approach and quality of candidates, insisting that with sustained grassroots engagement and strategic mobilisation, the APM possesses the capacity to defeat its opponents at the polls.
