Prominent human rights activist, Chidi Odinkalu, has condemned the detention of two bloggers, charged with defamation by Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank).
The bloggers, who were arrested and detained for three months, were accused of publishing damaging articles about the bank.
Odinkalu, a former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), described the detention as a “blatant abuse of power” and called for a boycott of GTBank.
He accused the bank of using senior advocates (SANs) to oppress and silence critics.
The bloggers’ ordeal began when they allegedly published articles critical of GTBank’s business practices.
The bank responded by filing a defamation lawsuit, which led to the bloggers’ arrest and detention.
Odinkalu’s condemnation of GTBank’s actions has sparked widespread outrage, with many Nigerians taking to social media to express their support for the detained bloggers and call for their release.
