FOSSU, FRSC Seal Partnership on Subsidised Driver’s Licences, Students’ Desk Office, Official Number Plates
The Federation of Oyo State Students’ Union (FOSSU) National Council has entered into a strategic partnership with the Oyo State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to promote student welfare and strengthen road safety awareness across tertiary institutions in the state.
The partnership was formalised during a courtesy visit by the FOSSU leadership to the Oyo State FRSC Headquarters in Ibadan, where the delegation was received by the Sector Commander, Corps Commander Kehinde Dahunsi.
The meeting focused on initiatives aimed at improving road safety while providing students with easier access to essential FRSC services.
One of the major resolutions reached was a proposal by FOSSU for a subsidised driver’s licence registration scheme for students in Oyo State. Corps Commander Dahunsi welcomed the initiative and pledged the command’s support in ensuring the process is affordable, seamless and accessible to students across tertiary institutions.
The FRSC also approved the establishment of a dedicated FOSSU–FRSC Students’ Desk Office at the Oyo State Command. The desk is expected to serve as a liaison point for road safety education, student-related complaints and collaborative sensitisation programmes between the agency and the student body.
In another development, the command acknowledged FOSSU’s request for official number plates for its headquarters vehicles to enhance identification and credibility during official student union activities across the state.
Speaking after the meeting, FOSSU National President, Sen. Ahmed A. Mufutau, described the engagement as the beginning of a partnership that would positively impact students.
According to him, the collaboration goes beyond a courtesy visit, noting that it reflects a shared commitment to protecting the lives of students through improved road safety awareness and access to FRSC services.
In his remarks, Corps Commander Kehinde Dahunsi commended the FOSSU leadership for its proactive approach and assured the union of the command’s continued support.
He said students remain critical stakeholders in the campaign for safer roads, adding that the FRSC is committed to working with FOSSU to promote responsible road use among young people.
The meeting was attended by senior officials of the FRSC, including the Director of Administration, DCC Alade, the State Command Protocol Officer, Officer Chioma, and the State Command Students’ Desk Officer.
The FOSSU delegation comprised the National President, Senate President, Social Director I, Financial Secretary, Clerk and Sports Director.
The visit concluded with a renewed commitment by both organisations to commence joint road safety sensitisation campaigns across tertiary institutions in Oyo State ahead of the new academic session.
