The PUNCH had earlier reported that the patient was undergoing a tooth extraction when the hospital experienced a blackout, forcing the attending dentist, one Dr. Adedoyin, to suspend the operation.

Taofeekah, a student of the National Open University of Nigeria, told our correspondent that the lights went off after an incision had already been made in her gum.

Despite taking pain medication, she added that the discomfort persisted.

Barely 24 hours after the report by The PUNCH, the FMC management confirmed that the patient had been recalled and the surgery had been concluded successfully.

In a Tuesday statement made available to our correspondent, the hospital spokesperson, Segun Orisajo, explained that the patient had presented herself at the dental clinic on Monday with a case of an impacted tooth.

Orisajo stated, “The patient, a student of the National Open University, Abeokuta Centre, presented at our dental clinic yesterday, 26th October 2025, with a case of an impacted tooth.

“She was taken in, and while the procedure was in progress, there was a power outage. At that time, the generator that supplies electricity to the dental clinic was undergoing a routine maintenance service.

“The patient was given two options — to wait a while or return to the clinic the following day (Tuesday). She chose to leave, in addition to her explanation that she would be having an examination that same Tuesday. She was then advised to come back on Wednesday.”

The statement added that Taofeekah returned to the clinic on Tuesday morning, where the surgery was completed without further incident.
