Egbeda Local Government Partners UNICEF to Mark Global Handwashing Day, Promotes Hygiene Awareness Across Communities
Every October 15, millions around the world unite to celebrate Global Handwashing Day, and this year, Egbeda Local Government, in partnership with UNICEF, proudly joined the global campaign.

The Executive Chairman of Egbeda Local Government, Hon. Sikiru Oyedele Sanda, represented by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Oladebo Simple, officially flagged off the campaign. He emphasized that washing hands with soap remains one of the simplest and most effective ways to prevent the spread of germs and save lives. He further highlighted the importance of maintaining clean hands, in line with this year’s theme — “Be a Handwashing Hero.”
The Director of Environmental Health Services, Sanitarian Baale Victoria Adekunbi, conducted a practical handwashing demonstration to promote proper hygiene practices and raise awareness about preventing communicable diseases through regular handwashing.

As part of the campaign, Mrs. Ajao Nafisat Temitope** joined the movement as an ambassador, sensitizing traders and shoppers at the Gbagi Market on the importance of handwashing as a personal and communal responsibility that promotes overall well-being and prevents the spread of infections.
Among the dignitaries who participated in the campaign across Efun, Gbagi International Market, and Akingbade areas of Egbeda Local Government were: the Leader of Egbeda Legislative Arm, **Hon. Olakanmi Olusola; Hon. Rafiu Ibrahim; Hon. Sarafadeen Salaudeen; Hon. Jimoh Arowolo; the Supervisor for Health, Hon. Ayaniyi; Youth Leader, Ajorosun LCDA, Alhaji Ganiyu Babatunde; the Director of Education, Mrs. Bosede Ilugbaro; and the Director of Budget, Mr. Abiola Adebayo, alongside market women and teachers.

As the campaign message reminds everyone: “The best cure begins with prevention.”Let us all make handwashing a daily habit and truly become Handwashing Heroes in our homes and communities.
