Egbeda LG Chairman Lauds Governor’s Initiative on Breastfeeding Week
The Oyo State government celebrated the 2025 World Breastfeeding Week in grand style, with the wife of the state governor, Engr. Mrs. Tamunomini Olufunke Makinde, presenting food items and cash gifts to breastfeeding mothers in Egbeda Local Government Area.

Represented by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetumobi, Engr. Mrs. Makinde emphasized the importance of creating a sustainable support system for breastfeeding mothers. This year’s theme, “Prioritize Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support System,” highlights the need for strong networks that enable families to breastfeed successfully.
The Commissioner for Health noted that breastfeeding is crucial for lifelong health, providing ideal nutrition, boosting immunity, and strengthening the bond between mother and baby. He thanked the Executive Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, for approving six months’ maternity leave for nursing mothers.

Dr. Muideen Babatunde Olatunji, Secretary to the Primary Health Care Board, urged nursing mothers to exclusively breastfeed their babies for six months to two years, citing the numerous benefits, including optimal nutrition, reduced infection risk, and physical recovery support.
The Executive Chairman of Egbeda Local Government, Hon. Sanda Sikiru Oyedele, praised the governor’s initiative, stating it reflects the government’s commitment to educating and supporting breastfeeding mothers. He appealed to the people to continue supporting the present administration.

The event was attended by dignitaries, including the Commissioner for Special Duties, Alhaja Faosat Joke Sanni, health officials, and nursing mothers.
