‘Don’t Drag Oyo into Disrepute’ — Oyo 4 All Condemns Viral Video Allegedly Involving Guber Candidate

The Social Political Group, Oyo 4 All, has condemned a viral video currently in circulation which it described as depicting an “immoral and unacceptable” public act allegedly involving a gubernatorial candidate in Oyo State.

Reacting to the video in a statement, the state coordinator of Oyo 4 All, Ibrahim Oyelere, described the development as “shameful and regrettable,” expressing concern that a highly placed individual would put Oyo State in the news for what he called an unacceptable public display.

Oyelere said the group was particularly disappointed that the state was being associated with such a development at a time when Oyo is widely recognised for its rich history, landmark achievements and several historic “firsts.”

“It is shameful and regrettable that some highly placed individuals will put Oyo State in the news for a negative and immoral act rather than for positive reasons,” Oyelere said.

The coordinator stressed that the conduct displayed in the viral video does not represent the values of the good people of Oyo State, noting that the group therefore distances the state and its people from the act.

According to him, Oyo State has consistently maintained a proud tradition of excellence, leadership and unprecedented achievements, adding that the state must not be dragged away from that legacy by the actions of individuals.

“We openly distance the good people of Oyo State from such an unacceptable display. Oyo State has always been known for its many historic firsts and unprecedented achievements, and we will not derail from that momentum because of the actions of individuals,” he said.

Oyelere added that whatever consequences or embarrassment may arise from the act should be borne by the individuals responsible for it, rather than being used to define the people and identity of Oyo State.

He further urged political leaders and other highly placed individuals to be mindful of their conduct in public, stressing that those seeking to lead the people should demonstrate responsibility and respect for the dignity of the office they aspire to occupy.

Oyo 4 All, he said, would continue to defend the image and reputation of Oyo State and speak out against actions capable of bringing the state and its people into disrepute.
