DIG Frank Mba, others retire as seven AIGs set for promotion
Senior police officer Frank Mba and several other Deputy Inspectors-General of Police are set to retire from the Nigeria Police Force following the recent leadership changes in the force.
The development comes as seven Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) are being considered for promotion to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police.
The retirement move followed the exit of former Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun and the emergence of Olatunji Disu as the new Inspector-General of Police.
Disu was sworn in on Wednesday as the 23rd indigenous Inspector-General of Police.
The Punch reported that the Force Headquarters in Abuja said the affected DIGs had been preparing to leave office but were waiting for the official signal.
“The DIGs are very ready to leave, but they are waiting for signals. Many of them have already moved their belongings from their offices in anticipation of their retirement,” one of the sources said.
“Maybe when the AIGs slated for promotion come in, they will leave.”
The report also disclosed that seven AIGs are expected to appear before the Police Service Commission in Abuja on Friday for their promotion examinations, a move that will pave the way for the retirement of Mba and other senior officers.
The officers slated for promotion are Margreth Ochalla, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, Ishiaku Mohammed, Zachariah Fera, Zango Ibrahim, Umar Shehu Nadada, and Muhammed Abdul Sulaiman.
“They are expected to appear before the Police Service Commission in Abuja on Friday for promotion,” the report added.
Mba, one of the DIGs set for retirement, is a trained lawyer.
