Democracy Day: Egbeda Council Boss, Sanda, Congratulates Egbeda People, Emphasizes Importance of Civic Engagement
As Nigeria marks Democracy Day, the Executive Chairman of Egbeda Local Government, Hon. Sikiru Oyedele Sanda, has called on residents of the local government to remain steadfast in their commitment to grassroots democracy, describing it as the foundation for a sustainable and inclusive democratic future.

In a message to commemorate the day, Hon. Sanda congratulated the people of Egbeda and Nigerians at large for their unwavering faith in democratic governance. He noted that the journey of democracy in Nigeria has not been without its challenges, but the collective resilience of the people continues to keep the system alive and growing.

“Today, we are not just celebrating the return to civilian rule, we are celebrating the will of the people and the strength of participatory governance,” the chairman said.

He emphasized the importance of grassroots democracy, urging the people of Egbeda to continue playing active roles in the democratic process through civic engagement, peacebuilding, and holding leaders accountable.
“Our democracy can only endure when we, the people, remain committed to its values at the grassroots. It is here at the local level that governance meets the people, and it is here that true democracy must be nurtured,” Hon. Sanda stated.
He further reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to inclusive governance, community development, and transparency, noting that under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde, Oyo State has witnessed remarkable progress built on democratic values and people-oriented policies.
Hon. Sanda concluded by encouraging residents to reflect on the sacrifices of Nigeria’s democratic heroes and to continue upholding peace, unity, and active citizenship for the collective good.
