Commissioner Williams Reaffirms Makinde’s Commitment to Housing Sector Reforms, Hails ERCAAN Leadership
The Oyo State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the activities of the Estate Rent and Commission Agents Association of Nigeria (ERCAAN), acknowledging the association’s invaluable role in housing sector development.
Hon. Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Mr. Akin-Funmilayo Williams, delivered this assurance at the 3rd Anniversary celebration of ERCAAN, held at the Oyo State House of Chiefs, Secretariat, Ibadan.
The Commissioner commended the outgoing executive led by Hon. Samuel Idowu Oni for their outstanding leadership and congratulated the newly inaugurated team under Hon. Morakinyo Okekunle.
He expressed that Governor Seyi Makinde remains a leader known for fairness and inclusiveness, adding that the government will continue to extend its support to the association whenever needed.
Akin-Funmilayo also urged ERCAAN members to uphold transparency and integrity in their dealings, stressing that the housing sector requires professionalism to maintain public trust. He highlighted key areas requiring urgent review to ease the burden on citizens:
Abolition of inspection fees charged to prospective tenants
Review of 5–10% agency commission to make it more affordable
Improvement in tenancy agreement processes
Adoption of better client profiling to enhance Know-Your-Customer (KYC) compliance
The Commissioner assured the association that government will look into their requests regarding provision of an operational bus and a land space for the establishment of their secretariat.
He concluded by reiterating that the Seyi Makinde administration recognizes their service as essential to sustainable urban development and will not underrate their contributions.
