The Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) has honoured a former Oyo State Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Planning, Hon. Abimbola Adekanmbi, with the Christian Prestigious Award (CPA) in recognition of his steadfast commitment to Christian values and his record of exemplary service in public life.
The award was presented during the 2025 Ibadanland Christmas Carol and Awards Ceremony, organised by the CCII under the theme “Joy to the World… the Lord Has Come.” The event was a grand gathering that drew Christian leaders, traditional and community stakeholders, as well as notable sons and daughters of Ibadanland.
Hon. Adekanmbi, who was unable to attend the ceremony in person, was represented by a former House of Representatives aspirant for the Ibadan North Federal Constituency, Hon. Matthew Alani Oyeniyi, who received the award on his behalf.
In his goodwill message, Hon. Oyeniyi delivered a brief exhortation drawn from the Holy Bible, emphasising the virtues of love, service, humility, and thanksgiving. He commended the leadership of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes for recognising Hon. Adekanmbi’s contributions, describing the honour as a timely and well-deserved acknowledgment of a life dedicated to service and integrity.
He also called on Nigerians, particularly residents of Oyo State, to use the Christmas season as a period of reflection and renewal, stressing that the essence of Christmas lies in demonstrating Christ-like values through compassion, unity, and selfless service.
Hon. Abimbola Adekanmbi currently serves as Chairman of the Committee overseeing the upgrade of the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan, a flagship infrastructure project of the Oyo State Government under Governor Seyi Makinde.
Between 2011 and 2019, Adekanmbi was a key member of the Oyo State Executive Council, where he headed the Ministry of Finance, Budget and Planning. His tenure was widely praised for fiscal discipline, transparency, and effective management of public resources, positioning the ministry as a model of best practices in public finance administration.
A Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), he has also served on the ACCA Corporate Sector Network Panel, contributing to policy discussions and professional development within the accounting and finance community.
Beyond government service, Hon. Adekanmbi is a Certified SAP FI/CO Consultant, Business Process Expert, and Business Engineer, with extensive cross-sector and international experience. His professional expertise covers the design, implementation, customisation, and support of complex enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems across diverse sectors, including public service, FMCG and retail, pharmaceuticals, and law enforcement.
Renowned for his analytical depth and solutions-driven approach, Adekanmbi continues to command respect and demand across both public and private sectors for his consistent delivery of high-quality outcomes.
According to the organisers, the Christian Prestigious Award reflects Hon. Adekanmbi’s enduring dedication to faith-based principles, excellence in service, and positive impact on society.
