Bye-Election: Ibadan North PDP Holds Credible Primaries, Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle (DoN) Emerges Winner

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday conducted a peaceful and transparent primary election for the Ibadan North Federal Constituency bye-election at the Ibadan North Local Government Secretariat in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The primary was conducted under the supervision of the party’s electoral committee and witnessed the active participation of key party stakeholders and state executives, including the PDP State Secretary, Alhaji Wasiu Adeleke, and the State Publicity Secretary who also doubles as the Youth Leader, Hon. Michael Ogunsina.

Delegates from all wards across Ibadan North cast their votes in a calm and orderly atmosphere to choose the party’s flag bearer for the upcoming bye-election.

At the end of the collation, Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle, popularly known as DoN, emerged victorious. Other aspirants present at the venue included Hon. Lanre Saraumi (Skido), Hon. Matthew, Hon. Akanbi Biiro, Hon. Taiwo Salami, and Hon. Adeyinka Kazeem (Bibire).

The exercise was conducted amidst tight security, with personnel from the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, and other security agencies ensuring a safe and hitch-free environment.

The event also attracted the presence of prominent PDP chieftains and political figures, including the Executive Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government, Hon. Oluwaseun Olufade; the two state lawmakers representing the Ibadan North constituency, Hon. Gabriel Babajide and Hon. Olufunke Comforter; the Oyo State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Hon. Toyin Balogun; former House of Representatives member, Hon. Waheed Gbede; and Hon. Demola Omotosho, among others.

Observers and party members alike praised the PDP for maintaining internal democracy and ensuring a credible, free, and fair selection process.

In his acceptance speech, Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle expressed deep appreciation to the delegates and leadership of the party for their trust, assuring them of his commitment to run a unifying, issue-driven campaign that reflects the will and aspirations of the people of Ibadan North.

With the primaries now concluded, the PDP in Ibadan North is set to approach the bye-election with renewed unity, strength, and determination to retain the seat.
