Akintayo Seeks NSCDC’s Support to Curb Hoodlum Activities, Drug Abuse, and Cultism in Ibadan NorthEast

On Tuesday, 2nd July, 2024, the Chairman of Ibadan NorthEast Local Government Area, Hon. Ibrahim Akintayo, paid a courtesy visit to the State Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Oyo State Command, Commandant Augustine Padonu, at the State Command Headquarters in Agodi, Ibadan.

During the visit, Hon. Akintayo expressed his appreciation for the remarkable leadership and achievements of the State Commandant and commended the diligent efforts of the officers and men serving in Ibadan NorthEast Division, under the leadership of CSC Oladimeji Khadijat, in providing security in the Local Government Area.

Hon. Akintayo highlighted the challenge of hoodlum activities in Ibadan NorthEast Division and discussed his initiatives to establish a well-structured office accommodation in Agugu Division. He expressed his eagerness to collaborate with the NSCDC to address the issue of insecurity in the State. Additionally, he raised concerns about the involvement of secondary school students in drug abuse, cultism, and inter-school conflicts and he requested the intervention of the State Command.

In response, the State Commandant, Commandant Augustine Padonu, welcomed the Chairman’s visit and emphasized the importance of such engagements in achieving internal security within the Local Government Area. He revealed plans for a major restructuring of the Divisions within the State to enhance their capacity, including the merger of Ibadan NorthEast and Agugu Divisions. He also highlighted the Safe School project designed to address insecurity in educational institutions and assured the Chairman of the NSCDC’s commitment to addressing security issues in schools with the collaboration of various stakeholders. Furthermore, Commandant Padonu requested the Chairman’s assistance in providing at least an acre of land for the permanent structure of the Division and other necessary logistics for its effective operations.

The Chairman assured the Commandant that he will make land available to the corps to erect a permanent structure.

The Divisional Officer, CSC Oladimeji Khadijat expressed gratitude to the State Commandant and pledged to uphold the mandates of the NSCDC in the local government area.

This visit marks a significant step towards fostering collaboration between the Ibadan NorthEast Local Government Area and the NSCDC, Oyo State Command, in addressing security challenges and promoting safety within the local government.
