Cholera: Measures Implemented in Ido LG to Prevent Cholera Spread, Residents Advised to Stay Alert
The Ido local government area of Oyo State has rolled out measures to prevent a cholera outbreak across the council area.
The measure is in a quick response to the report of the recent cholera outbreak in neighboring states which includes Ogun and Lagos, and considering the merriment of Eid-el-Kabir festivities.
The council Information Officer, Bello Ademolà Jeleel, made this known in a statement on Monday morning.
According to Bello, he explained that the council chairman, Hon. Sheriff Adeojo, is concerned about the development and the need to protect the people of Ido local government, considering the proximity of his council to Ogun and the degree of interactions between Ido local government residents and Odeda local government residents.
He said the Ido local government is on top of its game to ensure communities, villages, markets, public places as well as public basic schools are taking steps to ensure the health and safety of their environment.
The preventive measures Ido local government listed, included ensuring access to safe drinking water, practicing sanitation including proper hand-washing, and maintaining personal hygiene.
Others are handling food safely, washing fruits and vegetables properly before consumption, and cooking food properly before eating same.
The council also warned Ido local government’s residents to avoid roadside foods and drinking untreated water.
Adeojo, in the statement, further urged residents of the council to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to prevent the spread of cholera while promising further updates where necessary.
