Tinubu, US Court Battle and 2027: Nigerians Urged to Reject Leaders Vulnerable to Foreign Influence

As Nigeria approaches another election cycle, concerned citizens and political observers are urging electorates to reject what they describe as “unclean leadership”, saying the APC and its leadership have failed to deliver on promises to Nigerians.

At the center of the debate is the fact that Nigeria’s President is currently involved in a legal battle in the United States. But critics argue that the case has nothing to do with defending Nigeria’s interests.

“He is not in that US court to recover Nigeria’s stolen wealth,” a civic commentator said. “He is not fighting to recover looted assets hidden in London, New York, or Switzerland. He is not challenging multinational companies over environmental destruction or broken contracts. He is not seeking the return of our cultural artifacts.”

According to them, the President is not in court to protect Nigeria’s natural resources, intellectual property, or to enforce international awards in Nigeria’s favor. He is also not challenging IMF conditions or foreign sanctions that continue to hurt ordinary Nigerians.

“Rather, he is in court fighting to ensure that the FBI and the Drug Enforcement Agency do not release certain information they have on him regarding his past dealings,” the statement added.

While acknowledging that every citizen, including the President, has a constitutional right to defend themselves in court, analysts warn that the situation becomes dangerous when a leader’s personal legal troubles intersect with foreign interests.

“America will always pursue American interests. The FBI will do everything to protect them. This is not a conspiracy theory. It is how international politics works,” one analyst noted.

The concern, they argue, is leverage. When a foreign government holds sensitive information about a sitting President, it gains influence over decisions that affect Nigeria’s economy, sovereignty, and natural resources.

“The President may not suffer the consequences. It will be the ordinary Nigerian,” they said. “You will have a President seated in Aso Rock, but someone else a non-Nigerian will be calling the shots because they are holding his secrets. Proverbially, they are holding him by the scrotum.”

Critics say the FBI will likely keep much of the information redacted as long as the President “plays ball” with US interests.
“Trust me, he will play ball. Even if it means selling your present and your future in exchange,” one commentator warned.

They argue that this issue is bigger than APC, PDP, tribe, or religion.
“This is about national interest. A President with this kind of baggage is already a liability to his country. The question Nigerians must ask is: For how long can we afford to have a liability as President? And who pays the price?”

Observers say world powers often prefer to deal with weak and vulnerable leaders in countries like Nigeria because such leaders are easier to control.
“With compromised leaders, foreign powers get easy access to our resources. These leaders can throw citizens under the bus just to retain power and secure backing,” they said.

The call to Nigerians is clear: look beyond party affiliations, ethnic sentiments, and religious lines.

“Think beyond politics.
Think beyond tribe.
Think beyond religion.
Think national interest.”
